In September 2018, just two years old, Constança was diagnosed with a high-risk neuroblastoma. Since then, she has undergone a total of 14 cycles of chemotherapy, a long surgery, a bone marrow auto-transplant and 14 sessions of radiotherapy. At this moment, he is in a reassessment phase after the first immunotherapy cycle has not gone well, as he suffered very serious side effects and this had to be stopped. Immunotherapy has increased the possibility of curing this disease, so it is very important that Constança can comply with this treatment. However, even after our daughter has completed all these aggressive treatments, there is still a high chance that the cancer will return. For this reason, we investigated other options that aim to reduce the risk of relapse, and we found some treatments existing only outside Portugal that, in a way, continue the treatment received at our hospital. All of this has been discussed with the clinical team that accompanies Constança, because only with your consent will everything make sense. Among these treatments, there was one with promising results for this cancer, which is currently available in New York, at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We have been privileged to meet some families who have successfully completed this treatment, and to whom we thank them very much for sharing their experiences.
